What is a domain name?

For a Company to have a web site on the Internet, the Company needs a name to identify herself. This name is called the Domain Name and it is a registered name with the local Internet Service Provider (ISP).

This domain name is very much like a mailing address and in this address, you have your 'house' which is your web site. In this 'house', you have displayed whatever you want the Internet users to see such as your Company's products and all the Internet users in the whole world can see the contents of your 'house'.

There are two main types of domain names for corporate user:-

1. Registered in Malaysia - name format is www.yourname.com.my
2. Registered overseas in US - name format is www.yourname.com

All names must be unique which means that only one name can exists in the whole world. For example if your company's name is ABC & COMPANY and you wish to register your domain name as abc.com and if someone in US has used this name but not in Malaysia, you will be entitled to register your name as abc.com.my in Malaysia only and not abc.com.

The longer you wait, the chances of your Company's name being used by someone else in the world gets higher!

How does it work?

When someone type your domain name in their Internet browser, they will be able to go to your web site to see your products and other particulars which you have put in your web site.

How I can have my own domain name?

We will provide all the necessary services for your company's domain name registration. All you have to do is to fill in a form giving full particulars required for registration and choice of three names in their order of preference. If the first name chosen is not available, we will try to register the second and the third. If all choices are not available, you will need to provide to us a further three names.

How much do I need to invest?

The amount of investment depends on the domain name you wish to register. The investment (if you maintain a web site to the domain name) is as follows:-

• http://www.yourcompanyname.com.my
  For registration in Malaysia, the total investment is RM200.00 per domain name (inclusive of our service fee of RM100.00). Thereafter, yearly you will have to pay RM100.00 to maintain the registered name with the official registry in Malaysia.
  
  
• http://www.yourcompanyname.com
  For registration in US, the fee is US 70.00 for the first two years plus our service fee of RM100.00 per domain name. Thereafter, yearly you will have to pay US 35.00 to maintain the registered name with the official registry in USA.

If you wish to register a domain name but do not wish to have a web site as yet, you will have to invest an additional service fee of RM100.00 per annum to maintain the name.
